Sushi, brats, fish and chips, carnitas, shumai, crepes – what is yours? Favorite ethnic food that is. It is hard to pick one for this introductory blog. Don’t you think? I mean, I could start with my favorite one, which for me is sashimi, but that might not be true for you, right?

What topics make a good food blog?

When I was first thinking of this website’s ideas, someone said to me, “Well, as long as it is not just recipes or restaurants.” Hmm. It made me think. What is it that would make people attracted to this section?

Ingredients, where to find them, what components are unique to a specific country’s cuisine, cooking techniques, typical side dishes, how people eat, why they fast, and recipes and restaurants can all be fascinating topics.

The cuisine is a big part of a culture

Food is essential to learning about a culture. What kinds of food and beverages does a particular culture enjoy? What is their national dish? I never realized how involved Indian cooking was until I tried to make a meal from scratch. Now, I much appreciate my takeout at my favorite Indian restaurant.

Similar foods, different cultures

Foods may be similar in various cuisines, but languages call different names or recipes have a twist. Stuffed dough balls can be pierogies in Poland, dumplings in China, and varenyky in Ukraine. Many cultures eat bread, but it can be vánočka in Slovakia, injera in Ethiopia, pandesal in the Philippines, challah in Jewish cuisine, or baguettes in France.

Food is more than nutrition

The thought of our favorite food(s) can make us drool. Food is so much more than nutrition. It can uplift our moods when we are feeling down. It can reward us when we have completed something we did not want to do. The kitchen is undoubtedly the heart of the home, and people gravitate to it, especially in the last year.

Family dinners and friendly get-togethers often revolve around a meal, whether at home or out. Restaurants can be an extended part of our family. I love small mom and pop places that make great food. I go out of my way for them. How did they get started? What do they love to cook?

Small enterprises need us

Small food entrepreneurs need exposure. Ask anyone in Denver about Yuan Wonton, and they have probably heard that name. Penelope does an excellent job on social media. However, many other small restaurants, food trucks, bakeries, markets, and ramen joints may need an extra boost. I want to be their voice; to tell their story.

Please help. Tell me what you want to hear about in this section. Nominate your favorite spot, whether in the neighborhood, Colorado, the U.S., or the world.
